Closure Rationale

While DCS research and operational development is of high importance, this work is now funded by organizations other than HRP, in a collaborative joint effort. Details of DCS-related work that is already being done (or planned to be done) may be found in the comprehensive NASA technical paper “Integrated Extravehicular Activity Human Research and Testing Plan” (NASA/TP-2019-220232). As part of HRP’s new strategy, it will contribute to these operational efforts as needed.

Description

Initial state
Existing models for DCS risk are not validated for the Exploration environment. The DCS treatment model is not developed more than a theoretical application of the TBDM. The exercise saturation equivalent model is not yet developed.



Interim stages
:
This table describes the target credibility and current credibility level of each model. In most cases, the target credibility level is expected to be funded through HRP, but there are also a few instances where the target credibility level is greater than the expectations of what HRP funds would be expected to cover. This credibility level would be attained through funding of another organization.

Approach
:
As information is obtained through tasks in DCS gaps 2, 3 and 6, DCS prediction models will incorporate these factors. These models will then be used to prospectively predict the outcome of Exploration Atmosphere PB validation and verification tasks as a method of validation as well as complete all necessary requirements in NPR7009.
