Responsible Element: Human Health Countermeasures (HHC)
Status: Open
Description
Present state of knowledge:
Industry is working on better testing methods. Current methods require significant resources and produce significant waste.

Research approach:
Develop strategies to test, sterilize, and mitigate microbiological concerns with packaged foods, including mitigation of spores/insect eggs in bulk foods, augment Hurdle study with microbial assessments for 5-7 year old food items.
Target for Closure
Strategies and mitigation of microbiological concerns for packaged food.

* Assumption: Current pre-packaged foods are microbiologically safe for periods up to 2-3 years.
Mappings
