Short Title: Lab Analysis
Responsible HRP Element: Human Health Countermeasures
Collaborating Org(s):
Human Health Countermeasures (HHC) Element
Funding Status: Terminated - A formerly active task that was stopped before its completion date due to deselection, descoping, reorganization etc.
Procurement Mechanism(s):
NOTE: THIS TASK WAS NEVER ACTUALLY INITIATED BY HHC. A broader in-flight analysis need has been identified and will be investigated at a higher level or by a different HRP Element.

With the retirement of the Space Shuttle, biological sample return from the International Space Station will be challenging due to volume limitations on Soyuz. The Development of multiplexed assays for four analytesInterferon gamma (IFN-g), Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-a), 25 OH-vitamin D and Cross-linked N-teleopeptide (NTx)  to be used in-flight is critical to assess and study the health of astronauts while in-flight.

Integration/Unique Aspects: Integration with ExMC. Priority Rationale: HHC has been tasked by management to provide an alternative to relying on sample return and ground-based analysis, in-flight analysis will provide “point of care” assessment of analytes of interest to the NASA biomedical research community.
