Aims:
Develop an integrated countermeasure system that can be used facilitate adaptation to gravitational transitions. The system would be integrated with current inflight exercise protocols to create an interdisciplinary countermeasure suite capable of providing sensorimotor, resistance and cardiovascular training in a single operational system with low power and mass requirements suitable for long-duration exploration class missions. An integrated system would reduce the total amount of crew time required for exercise and sensorimotor training.  It has been clearly demonstrated that exercise coupled with sensory environmental enrichment operate in synergy to increase brain plasticity and cognitive function. Enhanced environmental enrichment though the application of virtual reality systems applied during exercise would enhance behavioral plasticity and have the ancillary benefit of providing a more engaging exercise system that would increase adherences to inflight exercise programs. In addition, this system would provide psychosocial benefits by providing a changing and interesting exercise experience during long-duration spaceflight.
