Procurement Mechanism(s):
Aim 1: (Late CNS) Examine dose thresholds, dose-rate dependence and mixed field effects for late behavioral and neurodegenerative CNS diseases from space radiation.

Aim 2: (Late CNS) Define adverse outcome pathways and associated biomarkers for late CNS neurodegeneration (post mission).

Aim 3: (CVD-DGN) Determine impact of  dose-rate and mixed field exposure on disease latency and progression.

Aim 4: CVD-DGN) Determine surrogate endpoints  (including intermediate cardiovascular risk parameters and related biomarkers) for detection and monitoring of radiation induced cardiovascular diseases.

Aim 5: (Acute CNS): Validate predictive/critical measures and biomarkers using chronic mixed field.

CVD/CNS Focused: Combine these to a focus on certain factors such as the apoE4 allele which occur at high frequency in populations and is predisposing to both CVD, cerebrovascular disease and late neurodegeneration.
