Aims:
The purpose of this effort is to evaluate unobtrusive measures of performance, relative to established measures (e.g. Cognition), and to provide guidelines for interpreting these ‘Next Gen’ measures. While reliable and valid objective (and subjective) measures are needed for the Bmed Risk to move from ‘red’ to ‘yellow’, future missions of extended duration will also have increasingly autonomous crews. Hence, providing measures which are unobtrusive and minimize the time burden to the crew, will provide a means through which changes in behavioral health and performance can be assessed. The intent is not to provide a measure through which crew are being monitored 24/7, but rather a measure which will cue the ground if downward trends persist.
This effort will contribute to gap closure by providing acceptable measures which will yield a set of mission acceptable thresholds of individual behavioral health and performance for exploration class missions.
Ground Analog Resources
Ground-Based Flight Analogs
- Controlled Research Analog, Long Duration (4 months or more) – isolated and confined with spaceflight mission scenario [e.g., NEK/Russian Chamber]
- Controlled Research Analog, Short Duration (2 months or less) – isolated and confined with spaceflight mission scenario [e.g., HERA, NEEMO]

Description:
This effort will provide recommendations for using unobtrusive measures as a means through which to measure changes in behavior and/or performance (e.g. performance errors on ROBoT aligned with performance errors on Cognition). Guidelines for interpreting data and providing meaningful output to end users, will be provided.
