Short Title: Microgreens Food Safety Analysis

Procurement Mechanism(s):
SA-1: Conduct seed sanitation on a variety of microgreen cultivars (n=24 different cultivars). This will include identification of a viable seed sanitation protocol, sanitation protocol optimization as needed, germination viability testing, and basic microbiological analysis to determine efficacy of sanitation process in reducing microbial counts.
SA-2: Propagate a variety of microgreen cultivar types (n=24 different cultivars) that are down-selects already screened from SLPSRA funded microgreen screening conducted in FY20 and perform standard food safety analysis (APC, fungal, pathogen screening) on a variety of microgreen cultivars (minimum n=12 cultivar types), to include analysis of edible tissue sanitized with ProSan.
SA-3: Understand impacts of plant height at harvest (able to be manipulated by light spectrum), seed density at time of planting, and role of blue light in food safety metrics of microgreens (n=6-12 microgreen cultivars tested, depending on variable). Results of SA-3 will be included in the SLPSRA funded Space Crop Production Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point plan currently under development that is currently not tasked with microgreen analysis.
