Short Title: Saliva/blood/urine Gateway (Flight)
Responsible HRP Element: Human Health Countermeasures

Funding Status: Planned-Funded - Task expected to be within budget
Procurement Mechanism(s):
TBD
Aims:
Characterization of the effects of deep space (Orion/Gateway) mission on physiology is paramount, yet operational constraints severely limit what biosamples may be collected, processed, and returned.  Dry Saliva affords a mechanism to return crewmember saliva samples in a tiny package, under ambient conditions.  The technology is currently used on ISS to support cortisol and DHEA measurements.

We propose to develop expanded capabilities, if possible, to include latent virus DNA, cytokines, and antimicrobial proteins.  If successful, this capability would afford a fairly broad snapshot of astronaut physiology, using almost negligible up/down mass, crew time, with no sample processing necessary.
