Procurement Mechanism(s):

  1. Cursor Control Device Performance Under Vibration: Determine characteristics of cursor control devices that perform well or are problematic under different levels of vibration. Use test battery as one of the test tasks.
  2. Test devices in a lunar field test [e.g., Desert Research and Technology Studies DRATS)]. Cursor Control Device Test Battery Enhancement: Enhance test battery developed in prior funded years to include discrete cursor tasks. Perform usability testing and complete a NASA technology transfer package for public release of the software.
  3. Pressurized Glove Dexterity: Complete a joint study with the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) office to investigate pressurized, gloved dexterity required for operating controls, including new candidate requirements/standards.

The Controls Technology, Survey and Testing Task completed all aims, contributing to closure of the HCI guidelines gap. Results from Cursor control testing under vibration and in the field yielded important information about the feasibility of cursor control device (CCD) use in operational environments. Pressurized glove testing led to content and guidelines appropriate for addition to the Human Interface Design Handbook (HIDH) in the form of recommendations and guidelines.
