Aims:
- To develop a software-based, stochastic decision
support tool useful to clinical stakeholders and medical mission
planners.
- To develop the ability to optimize the mass and
volume for an in-flight medical system and specified level of risk.
- To develop a knowledge management tool for the clinical
evidence used by the model (iMED database).
- To integrate independent predictive modules for rare medical events.
- To integrate Bayesian analyses for medical events with no in-flight history.
- To create Risk-based Medical System Design Handbooks for exploration mission planning.
- To achieve sufficient NASA STD 7009 verification and validation thresholds established by HRP and the exploration customer.
Integration/Unique Aspects:
The IMM accepts the results from external models and analyses. The IMM currently derives estimates of fire/smoke/toxic inhalation risks from the ISS PRA fire module. IMM uses incidence data generated by independent predictive health models and by Bayesian analyses that appear as unique tasks in the research plan.

Description:
The Integrated Medical Model (IMM) tool set has three distinct components: 1) the integrated Medical Evidence Database (iMED), which manages the clinical evidence, rationale, and approach for compiling data on every medical condition represented in IMM; 2) the IMM, which is a statistical, predictive crew health risk model using Monte Carlo simulations to estimate mission risk due to crew health events; and 3) an optimization algorithm, which solves for medical system mass/volume given crew health impairment and mission risk constraints, or vice versa. The delivery of the validated tool set will contribute to the closure of Gap Med08.
