Description

Initial state of Gap:

HF does not currently have a complete, quantitative risk definition/standard model of HCI performance, nor is there description of the relative contribution of the contributing factors and how spaceflight HCI performance compares to terrestrial HCI performance.

Interim Steps For Getting to the Target:

  1. Derive mission-specific factors that differentiate future DRMs from current mission capabilities.

  2. Establish the criteria for a terrestrial baseline for HCI performance based on available mission-specific factors, HCI Risk Contributing Factors, and Human Rating Requirement (NPR 8705.2B).

  3. Construct a high-level tracking Roadmap table.

  4. Quantify the ground-based baseline against which spaceflight outcomes will be compared.

  5. Data acquisition and mining to identify current HCI performance levels during missions.

  6. Determine which aspects of HCI risk factors have the greatest impact on spaceflight decrement.

  7. Populate Human Performance Database with the mined data.

  8.  Assess ground vs. flight performance delta with respect to the Human Rating Requirement to determine HCI performance measures and acceptable risk levels.

Obtain Human System Risk Board (HSRB) approval of the set of HCI performance measures and acceptability thresholds for each one.

Research Approach:

  • Construct a Roadmap Table template

  • Gather ground HCI data based on relevant spaceflight factors, including HRR

  • Mine existing spaceflight data related to HCI

  • Calculate deltas in performance and define acceptable HCI performance

  • Construct final Research Roadmap for HCI risk for tracking/planning

Target for Closure
The Human System Risk Board (HSRB) approves a set of HCI performance measures and acceptability thresholds for each one.
