Description

Initial State:
Certain medical conditions may present unique challenges to mitigate due to the spaceflight environment, resource limitations, or mission operational concept.  This gap provides a pathway for researching information and technology relevant to any specifically identified medical condition on an as-needed basis.

Approach:
Projects will be conducted to explore avenues that will:
    1. Evaluate specific medical condition risks identified by the ExMC Operational Research divisioon for consideration for clinical resource needs.
    2. Identify and develop relevant screening, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up capabilities.
    3. Develop the capability to diagnose or treat renal stones in an exploration missions.
    4. Develop the capability to diagnose or treat bone fractures in an exploration missions.
    5. Develop the capability to screen for, diagnose, and treat disease due to dust exposure during exploration missions.
    6. Develop the capability to optimally treat musculoskeletal injuries during exploration missions.

Target for Closure
Identify a set of conditions and provide recommendations or technology to mitigate the set of conditions.
Mappings
Risk Risk of Renal Stone Formation
Risk Risk of Adverse Health Outcomes and Decrements in Performance Due to Medical Conditions that occur in Mission, as well as Long Term Health Outcomes Due to Mission Exposures
