Description
Present State Of Knowledge:
The food system psychosocial factors (variety, choice, preparation, meal time and crew interactions, etc.) and nutrients provided (this includes thousands of phytochemicals in whole foods) are known to impact mood, cognition, performance, and sleep.

Research Approach:
Understand how food can optimally be used as a psychological countermeasure, including such aspects as: Providing special menus for holidays/ birthdays/celebrations, providing “comfort foods”, optimizing agriculture as a psychological countermeasure, cooking or other food preparation as part of meaningful work research, mitigation of adverse reactions when plants die. Evaluate options to condition crew in advance of the mission to an austere diet.
