Aims:
- To develop galley architecture forplacement within space habitat to operate at reduced gravity and pressure.
- To model flow patterns in reduced gravity and reduced pressure for vapor handling system.
- To design and fabricate selected components of the galley and demonstrate relevant operational parameters in reduced gravity.

Description:
The
final deliverable was a fume hood designed to handle vapors in reduced gravity
and reduced pressure environments. The prototype was evaluated on a reduced
gravity test flight and successfully demonstrated a vapor handling system for
cooking on reduced gravity surfaces. This prototype contributes to gap closure in
the case of implementation of a bioregenerative system on a surface mission by
informing development capabilities and requirements for cookware in reduced
gravity and pressure environments. However, during the course of this work the
AFT focus shifted to prepackaged foods for the next five years, so work in this
area will not continue at this time.
