Aims:
This research seeks to:
1. Develop a computational model of shared cognitive architectures (SCA) that accounts for
the role of the conceptual aspects of long duration space exploration (LDSE), the antecedents of SCA (e.g. team member characteristics, contextual factors, interventions), and consequences of SCA (e.g. norms, coordination, performance)
2. Devise and test a dashboard to unobtrusively identify and predict shifts in SCA that indicate increased risks, using data captured in meta-analysis, historiometric analysis, text analysis, virtual experiments, and a series of studies conducted in settings analogous to LDSE.
3. Develop and validate countermeasures based on dashboard predictions (e.g., composition and training of members of the space exploration multiteam system, including crew members, ground control, and other key boundary spanners).
Ground Analog Resources
Ground-Based Flight Analogs
- Controlled Research Analog, Short Duration (2 months or less) – isolated and confined with spaceflight mission scenario [e.g., HERA, NEEMO]
- ICE Field Analog, Long Duration (4 months or more) – isolated, confined and extreme; may not have spaceflight mission scenario [e.g., Antarctica]

Category:
Risk Characterization, Quantification
Subcategory:
Evidence or Risk Characterization
Description:
Final report providing evidence on the shifts that occur in team mental models over time and their effects on team performance. Promotes gap closure by addressing metric for interim progress (2) solicit and implement studies to benchmark team function variations in different long duration ground analog environments.
