Responsible HRP Element: Space Human Factors and Habitability
Collaborating Org(s):
Funding Status: Completed - Task completed and produced a deliverable
Procurement Mechanism(s):
Solicited
Aims:

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) team will deliver the H-FAST tool with the following enhancements:

  1. Best Practices for Human Factors Integration in Agile Software Development Processes
  2. Department of Defense (DoD) and Industry Best Practices in Human-Computer and Human Automation/Robot Interaction (HCI/HARI)
  3. Best Practices for Formal Verification and Validation

The SBIR Phase III task, “Human Factors Analysis Support Tool - H-FAST” (TiER1 Performance Solutions), co-funded by the Astronaut Office Rapid Prototyping Laboratory, was  completed and provided a wealth of human factors information, references, and guidance for use by personnel working on the development of hardware and software. The Phase III project provided enhanced content, including best practices for Human Factors involvement in an Agile software development process. The design and process guidance provided by this tool will help to standardize development of usable interfaces.

The tool upgrade has contributed to gap closure by providing an information tool covering new areas of research related to developing usable, evolvable interfaces. The information in the tool has already been used during development of the Human Systems Integration (HSI) Practitioners Guide.

Integration/Unique Aspects: The Phase III SBIR was co-funded by the Astronaut Rapid Prototyping Laboratory (RPL). They are using an Agile process and are interested in benefitting from this tool.
