Aims:
The primary objective
of the project as a whole is to design, develop, and test a sleep-EEG system
for NASA sleep research in analog and spaceflight settings. This system will be
tested in laboratory and hospital environments first, and will then be tested
in HERA for operational usability. To achieve the technical objectives, the
specific aims include:
Aim 1: Adapt existing, near-infrared neuroimaging technology (NIRS),
to a system which will allow selection and deployment
of 1-8 EEG channels for brain monitoring alongside the built-in 64-channel NIRS
system
Aim 2: Supplement
technology with sensors relevant to sleep and/or polysomnography (PSG) research
Aim 3: Make
data channels compatible with NASA data management platform
Aim 4: Develop a software
toolbox to manage and analyze the data collected
Aim 5: Conduct
human tests to validate the system and assess its operational usability
