Aims:

Aim 1: Test the hypothesis that data on the cytotoxic and mutagenic effects of individual beams can help model the combined effects of acute exposure to multiple ions that represent the major components of the GCR.

 

Aim 2: Test the hypothesis that acute exposure to a three beam cocktail can provide a good approximation of the genotoxic effects of an acute exposure to a simulated GCR spectrum that more closely matches the composition of the GCR.

 

Aim 3: Test the hypothesis that protracted exposure to a defined GCR spectrum will produce a reduced biological effectiveness for cytotoxicity as compared with the effects of the same defined GCR spectrum delivered in an acute exposure protocol. Sub-aims will also address the effects of dose protraction on mutation induction.
