Short Title: Cancer Countermeasures I
Responsible HRP Element: Space Radiation
Collaborating Org(s):
Funding Status: Planned-Funded - Task expected to be within budget
Procurement Mechanism(s):
Solicited
Aims:

Specific Aims:

  • Aim 1 (Cancer): Identify and prioritize candidate radioprotective and chemopreventative agents to mitigate highest risk radiation induced tumors.

  • Aim 2 (Cancer): Test efficacy of selected medical countermeasures for cancer prevention in high risk tissues following simulated GCR and SPE exposures.

  • Aim 3 (Cancer):  Screen for additional candidate countermeasures with efficacy in mitigating radiation-induced tumors across multiple tissue types.

  • Aim 4 (Cancer): Identify biomarker approaches for surveillance and outcome prediction

Secondary Aims

  • Aim 5 (Cancer): Integrated omics evaluation of HZE cancer processes leading to cancer development.

  • Aim 6 (Cancer): Perform molecular characterization of tumors for major at risk tissues.
