Aims:

The maturation task will:

(1) recommend sensorimotor standards for in-mission assessments and procedural controls relevant to manual control, crew egress and EVAs during planned lunar DRMs;  

(2) recommend sensorimotor standards for preflight training and post-flight reconditioning; and

(3) present the findings at boards to transition to appropriate operations stakeholders, as required.

Detailed Information

This maturation task will leverage results from the ground-based Sensorimotor Standards (POL) Definition study and preliminary results from two ISS studies: the Sensorimotor Standards (POL) Validation and Lunar Lander Risk Characterization. These studies are intended to establish fitness-for-duty sensorimotor standards for operational tasks, including manual control, crew egress and EVA that are relevant to the lunar design reference missions (DRMs). Manual control standards will leverage recommendations for proficiency with just-in-time trainers during extended missions, limitations of dual tasking during critical phases and eye-hand coordination assessments. Crew egress and EVA fitness for duty assessments will include motion sickness, head-body motion monitoring, and field assessments of mobility and balance. Recommendations for standards for pre-flight training and post-flight reconditioning to return to baseline performance level will also be included.
