Aims:
- To determine the requirements of crop growth in a complete bioregenerative food system and if used to supplement a mixed / primarily prepackaged menu.
- To determine the requirements regarding food preparation and/or processing equipment assuming partial gravity.
- To determine mass and volume requirements for various levels of food processing and food preparation.
- To recommend a food system for extended habitat missions in deep space.

Description:
This study determined the equivalent systems mass (ESM) of processing and preparation of foods from a bioregenerative system vs. a prepackaged food system. The final comparative values included acceptability, crew time, mass, volume, and power requirements for each system. Final results indicated a combination between the systems will be optimal. The final deliverable was a final report contributing to gap closure by informing requirements and limitations to a prepackaged and bioregenerative food system over a long duration mission.
