Short Title: DCS Treatment Model
Responsible HRP Element: Human Health Countermeasures

Funding Status: Completed - Task completed and produced a deliverable
Procurement Mechanism(s):
Directed
Aims:

Although the goal is to mitigate DCS risk through engineering and operational controls, there will likely be some level of DCS risk that will have to be accepted and this level of acceptable risk is dependent on the ability to treat DCS risk in situ. In the case that DCS is experienced by a crewmember, DCS treatment procedures must be in place. This goal of the DCS treatment model will be to prescribe appropriate DCS treatment given the constraints of the treatment modalities available to the crew.

As with NASA’s existing models of decompression risk, this DCS treatment model would also be available for use by the US Navy and US Air Force and potentially in commercial and recreational diving applications.
